The awkward pause that followed Liz Truss’s tribute to Boris Johnson was simply magnificent
New prime minister Liz Truss – no, seriously – has a habit of appearing, well, less than entirely impressive on camera.
And it didn’t take long for the new PM – how has it come to this? – to underwhelm as she took to the stage after Tory party members voted her into Downing Street.
In an acceptance speech which was even more underwhelming than you’d expect, the highlight was surely the moment she paid fulsome praise to her predecessor, Boris ‘three years’ Johnson.
