Nigel Farage’s attempt to avoid scrutiny over his financial affairs will have cost Clacton between 250,000 and 350,000 by the time the by-election is over – and, if he is re-elected, they’ll probably have to do it all over again in a few months.
If he isn’t re-elected, as well as suffering extreme embarrassment, he may well face a police investigation.

Farage’s defence isn’t that the gift slipped his mind. He argues he didn’t have to declare it because he wasn’t engaged in politics at the time.

While Reform UK has drafted in any member who can drag themselves to Clacton, the story they’ve been pushing is one of a constituency devoted to its absentee MP. This clip of Farage being heckled painted a very different picture.
