Farage watchers could do a lot worse than to remind themselves of the manner in which failed PM and Partygate ringmaster Boris Johnson exited the House of Commons.

In June 2023, Johnson read the findings of the Privileges Committee ahead of the publication of its report, which stated that he had misled the House, and that they would recommend a suspension of more than 10 days.

The internet immediately pointed out that his far-from oven-ready Brexit deal had increased the number of small boats crossing the Channel – and made it harder to return the people in them to the first safe country they’d reached.

A Community Note explained the issue.

A 2023 study found that the so-called "Boriswave" of small boat crossings of the English Channel was due to the Brexit deal that Boris Johnson himself negotiated, which saw the UK leave the Dublin Convention which allowed those crossing to be returned to the continent.
