This man helped save someone’s life by mentioning the UKIP punch-up

James Chalmers, a Professor of Law at the University of Glasgow, has told Twitter an interesting story about how the UKIP punch-up has helped save a man’s life.
I have a small story of how the Famous UKIP Punch Up of 2016 just became a force for good.
Walking through Edinburgh earlier tonight; suddenly find a man lying at the foot of a set of stone steps, head surrounded in blood.
John (he’s ok, by the way) seems to have leaned against a gate not knowing it was a gate, and whoosh.
So I have to call an ambulance, which I don’t think I’ve ever done before.
I also have to spell every street name twice, as a passerby looks on in despair.
“Did you see it happen?” “No.” “How long ago did it happen?” “Um…?”
While I’m answering these questions, John starts to get up, and I have to simultaneously spell out street names and beg him not to move.
Anyway. An ambulance is on its way, but he’s now on his feet, insisting he’s fine and can leave.
I can see the back of his head. He is not fine.
And he appears to be staying on his own in a hotel. The worst possible situation would be for him to go for a lie down with no-one there.
I don’t really want to physically restrain him (although let’s face it, he’s just fallen down some stone steps, even I could hold him back).
So what do do? Suddenly, an idea. “Did you see what happened to that UKIP MEP?”
Suddenly, John is not only convinced he should wait for the medics, he is totally up for a chat about how bonkers UKIP’s MEPs are.
So he’s now in an ambulance, and all this should hopefully end well.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how Mike Hookem saved John’s life tonight.
P.S. If you know anyone who works for French Duncan Chartered Accountants, you might want to reassure them about that pool of blood.
