Theresa May’s former joint chief of staff Nick Timothy has defended the prime minister’s role in those hideous ‘go home or face arrest’ vans of a few years ago.

They are back in the spotlight in the wake of the Windrush scandal and now the PM’s former right hand man – he quit after the disastrous 2017 election – has said that, actually, they were nothing to do with May (despite her being Home Secretary at the time).
