Theresa May compared herself to Liverpool in Europe and it’s a glorious self-own
The most cringeworthy moment of today’s PMQs was when Theresa May compared her government and the Brexit mess it finds itself in to Liverpool’s astonishing comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Except, when it comes to Brexit, Liverpool and its manager Jurgen Klopp aren’t the ideal reference point for the so-called prime minister …
Crikey. @theresa_may explicitly compares herself to Liverpool FC – and sees its triumph over Barca as a model for how she can still win on Brexit! I am not sure that will warm the cockles of the people of Liverpool

… and here’s why.
She does realise that Liverpool, guided by a very vocal Remainer, have stayed in Europe, doesn’t she?

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is a staunch remainer who called for "common sense" on Brexit and wants people to "think about it again and let’s vote again with the right information". They are nothing alike. https://t.co/op6qIrCLEN

We (Liverpool) are still in Europe! We just hope the rest of the UK stays with us!

So, a German manager and a multicultural, multifaith team is her dream

She's more like Manchester United. No longer part of Europe's top table. Desperately harking back to a glorious past, weak leadership, damaging internal politics, and still in Europe next year but with far less relevance. https://t.co/zhMJgSwBbM

Theresa May compares herself to Liverpool. A club whose foundations were built by a socialist and whose present team is managed by a Europhile in a city that strongly voted Remain.
Yeah, right. #PMQs— Peter Smith (@Redpeter99) May 8, 2019
Er didn’t Liverpool vote Remain?

To conclude …
So, it looked like we were going out, but now we're not? #YNWA https://t.co/J4RaerFEy8
