Someone asked people who’d ever won a ‘lifetime supply’ of something how they had fared and it turns out you can have too much of a good thing

12.

‘The previous owner of my house won a year’s supply of chocolate bars. Or, at least I assumed they did, because this is the only conceivable reason why boxes of them kept arriving on my doorstep.

I notified them through the estate agents and never heard a thing back. So after six months I started having one a day and they did indeed last about a year.’

‘Friend at my secondary school won a lifetime supply of Smarties. As a year group we ate them in a month.’

‘Don’t know if this counts but I sort of found a lifetime’s supply? When we bought our house, I went through some of the old documents in the deeds and worked out that we were owed rent for two telegraph poles in our garden – an agreement that had been established in the 1920s.

We got in contact with the local board and re-established it so now we get a monthly rental from them. They tried to buy us out of it but we preferred putting it towards the electricity bill.’

‘I won a year’s supply of Tunnock’s tea cakes. It was only 12 boxes. I may just be a greedy bastard but they only lasted a few weeks.’

‘Not a lifetime supply but I did once win a year’s supply of wine. It turned out that their idea of a year’s supply was different to mine. They sent me 12 cases of wine. It didn’t last me a year!’

‘I won one of those Pot Noodle forks in a Pot Noodle where they rotate, took ages to come and the first time I tried to use it it failed mechanically and stopped rotating.

Contacted Pot Noodle about it and they gave me a years supply of Pot Noodles. They sent me around 300 pot noodles of different types, most of which I didn’t like. They sat in the garage for years and we palmed them off on whoever was unfortunate enough to say they liked Beef and Tomato.

I absolutely cannot stand pot noodles now because of it.’

‘I won a year’s supply of fancy coffee around the same time I started dating my now-husband. It was especially brilliant because he and his housemate were/are total coffee fiends, and the housemate even had a coffee review show on YouTube. I managed to get in their good books early by giving them loads of it!

Practically, it was kind of annoying. I lived in a tiny house and didn’t really have room for all the boxes, so for almost a year I was constantly moving boxes of coffee around.’

‘The UK National Lottery has a game called ‘Set for Life’, which I won.

The prize was £5.’

‘I once received a huge box of Kit Kats from the manufacturers with a congratulations on wining the competition note. No memory of entering a competition and not even a big fan of them, lasted me a couple of years, not bad!’

‘My sister won a year’s supply of Twiglets when I was younger. We came home to find a massive pallet load of Twiglets. My school packed lunches consisted of a pack of Twiglets for ages and we were giving them away to everyone as we didn’t have the space for them.

I’ve never touched a pack of Twiglets since.’

‘I won a years supply of condoms. They obviously don’t know me that well. I gave them to my mates down the pub.’
