You won’t find a better use for a train set this Christmas
Christmas train set hack, although there’s no reason why you shouldn’t leave it up all year.

And here it is in action.
It’s a G Scale* railway – LGB 45mm gauge track, converted Playmobil diesel loco and wagons, @Gaugemaster shuttle unit from @HattonsModels. (*G usually stands for “Garden”. From now on it stands for “Gin”). Every home should have one. pic.twitter.com/UZADiRJn1j

If you’re heading back to family homes or having time off at Xmas, go on, dig out your old train set and see if you can make do something useful. Or at least, serve cheap vodka shots on it. pic.twitter.com/9XSA2kdZkP

(My mum recalls times when she and her brother, when children, would put Joey their budgie in her brother’s @hornby Dublo trainset at Xmas. He never wanted to get out. We still run the set around the table every year) pic.twitter.com/OYsTftkW7s

I've been reminded that I am not the first to serve drinks and food by model railway train. Buster Keaton did it in "The Electric House" in 1922: pic.twitter.com/ZbzISrSQlA

Beautifully done.
There's a hotel in Wernigerode in Germany that does this serving most of the tables. Including the bill at the end! And outside the window there's a procession of full size steam trains!

Prague too. I think Prague. I forget. Anyway. There’s also one in Bewdley above your head

The one in Bewdley is still there.

I was in it last Xmas! Managed to convince staff to start it up. After various obstructions caused derailments and some stuff falling in to one woman's dinner, eventually they got it working for the rest of the night to much jubilation from locals!

*the 8.34 service is delayed due to icecubes on the line*

Gin and white wine allowed only… strictly no red due to possible spillage on the tight corner behind the dining table

Mine just goes round and round. But oh I love it! 🚂🚋🚋🎄 pic.twitter.com/1m2KFvPg2Y

Still not too late to ask Santa for a train set.
