‘So glad they marked up my ankle, would hate for them to have operated on the wrong one!’
It’s common practice for hospitals to mark up which arm or leg they are going to operate on – anything where there’s two of them with potential for confusion, basically.
Except in this case, well, the arrow might have been a bit surplus to requirements….
I’m so glad they marked up which ankle needed surgery. I’d of hated to of woken up afterwards and found out they’d operated on the wrong one! #amputee pic.twitter.com/2l2rh8DJf2

My journey started on the 9th March 2018 when I stopped help someone after they’d crashed on the M42 near Bromsgrove. Upon returning to my car to fetch a torch, I was struck by an out of control vehicle. The impact took my leg off there and then (1/2)

After being stabilised at the scene, I then underwent emergency surgery before spending the next 8 days in intensive care on oxygen and being fed through a tube. I suffered lung and chest trauma as well as my remaining ankle being broken in 2 places (2/2) pic.twitter.com/Cn6G5VASw1

In the days after the crash, I had another 4 operations and 5 blood transfusions as a result of the blood lost from my injuries. As a blood donor myself, it really hit home how important it is to give blood as without a doubt, I would of died without those transfusions (1/3) pic.twitter.com/ydJMWM5qZB

If just one person reading this signs up and gives blood, that is something amazing, as this whole situation shows, it could be you or your family needing it one day. I thought that about myself and it happened. #giveblood ❤️https://t.co/mLoiQvHJcv (2/3)

One person spoke to me and tried to keep me awake and another person applied a tourniquet and kept my leg raised. The paramedics said if he hadn’t, I would of bled to death within 6-8 minutes. He undoubtably saved my life. I have everything to thank him for ❤️(3/3)

When I first got my wheelchair, I had to test out its capabilities and with #StumpyTheDinosaur encouraging me, we picked up a bit of speed. Unfortunately for us, we were caught out. As for excuses, I didn’t have a leg to stand on! #amputee pic.twitter.com/Gp9q09ErKC

The agency nurses come in at night and ask if I’m wearing stockings (I have my blanket covering my stump but my other leg is out). I tell them I’m not sure and when they lift the blanket to check, their face is a picture! 😂😂😂

Funnily enough, another marking did appear – I’m guessing it was something to do with my catheter! pic.twitter.com/BsCbYYE2Db
