Two callers on a phone-in show had a blazing row about Brexit and it went to a weird place
LBC presenter Tom Swarbrick has the 10 PM to 1 AM slot on Sundays to Thursdays and sees a lot more lively action than you might expect at that time of night. As with every call-in show at the moment, the topic of discussion often turns to Brexit, bringing out some understandably passionate interactions, like this between “Tony” and “Adam”.
Poor Tom could barely get a word in, and we noticed he had to turn down the volume on Adam just to get some order – or should we say “to take back control”.
For some reason, the conversation veered off onto the subject of the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, which is when things really got heated.
Adam: What did France do during the Falklands War? They sold Argentina Exocet missiles.
Tony: We went 8000 miles down the road to have a war.
Adam: Yes, to protect something that is British sovereign territory.
Tony: It belongs to Argentina.
Adam: How dare you say that? You are a traitor!
Tom had to step in shortly after this – presumably to prevent Adam from being the first person to give themselves an aneurism live on air.
It’s probably just as well nobody mentioned the Gibraltar backstop.
