Paul Young’s still angry his song wasn’t used in Planes, Trains and Automobiles
It’s 25 years since John Candy died and it’s 32 years – we are so old – since he starred alongside Steve Martin in the great Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
The 25th anniversary prompted Ryan Reynolds to make this brilliant video, soundtracked by Paul Young singing Every Time You Go Away.

Except it wasn’t Paul Young’s version of Every Time You Go Away that featured in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
And does it still rankle with the singer? It rankles, it REALLY rankles.
I was so disappointed and deflated when my damn record company wouldn’t let my version be used in Trains, Planes and Automobiles so @VancityReynolds thank you so much for finally using it in this lovely tribute to John!

And it prompted the sort of lovely exchange which makes the rest of Twitter worthwhile.
This song still punches me in the heart every time. Thank you, Paul.

Thanks Ryan, that was my big moment to be in a movie with two heroes of mine and CBS stabbed me in the heart over some tit-for-tat argument with Warner Brothers

I always wondered why the wonderful original version wasn’t in the movie! This thread has everything: nostalgia, information, true patriot love, and shit talking the man. I love it. ❤️
