11 mixed reviews of ‘The one where somebody said F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was garbage’
It’s almost 25 years since the US sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. first hit the screens, so we’ll undoubtedly see a flurry of tributes, extra reruns, quirky clips during the ads to remind us of the extra reruns and lots of “Where are they now?” articles. However, Buzzfeed have kicked off the celebrations with *checks notes* a piece that absolutely trashes the show and all who sailed in her.
You can read the full thing here, but these are a few edited highlights – or lowlights, depending on your point of view.
“Friends, my darling, is terrible.”
“Phoebe, a fictional character in a bad television show whose entire personality trait is being flighty”
“Friends, a show about white people being thin and having the pointiest nipples in the continental Americas …is absolute garbage.”
It’s fair to say that writer, Scaachi Koul, pulled no punches, and when it made its way onto Twitter, people had a lot to say about her article.
As its 25th anniversary rapidly approaches, I regret to inform you that Friends is, actually, a terrible show: https://t.co/PcpumaHvI3 pic.twitter.com/BQuqbrzA1V

"I don’t want to be dramatic, but if I read one more headline that says “Could we BE any more excited?” about some Friends-related news, I will throw myself into the nearest active volcano." https://t.co/SlWdQDgXkH

There were some who joined her in coming out as F.R.I.E.N.D.S. haters.

Telling my normie classmates that Friends sucked was a large part of my personality in high school. I apologize to everyone who experienced me as a smug, condescending little shit, but for the record I was right https://t.co/1wfKDgl2cC

Shout out to my parents for insisting that Friends WAS bad in the 90s and instilling a proper dedication to Seinfeld in me. Anyway, I've still never seen 99% of Friends and I'm okay with it. https://t.co/xhJJ3DSdZe

Totally agree with this take. Caught an episode of Friends the other day and it was beyond awful. The material is embarrassingly juvenile and dated. Seinfeld was and always has been far superior. https://t.co/Qca7h4vcNn

Proud to say I never watched a single episode of Friends and, I grew up in the 90’s… They were not my friends… I take it as a personal insult when people of color are purposefully excluded… Fuck Joey, fuck Rachel, fuck all of em…

I missed the original Friendzy so I tried watching it on Netflix recently and….could not get more than two episodes in. https://t.co/Im1iKoqWdi

But the fans were riled …

Friends was on the air for 10 years, was nominated for 62 Emmys, and finale was watched by more than 52.5 million people.
Try harder.
