This Daily Mail ‘coronavirus panic’ story was destroyed by its own reader comments and it’s a very satisfying read
To the Daily Mail, which reported that spreading panic about coronavirus had left London’s Chinatown totally and utterly deserted. Not only that, they had the pictures to prove it.
Except there was a whole bunch of people queuing up to tell the Mail that this simply wasn’t true, if only they’d listen to them.
And they really didn’t have to go far to look for them, because they were all in the Daily Mail reader comments, as highlighted by the tireless @DMReporter.
FEAR: The Mail goes out in the middle of the night to get photographs of a deserted Chinatown for their ‘#CoronaVirus panic’ story. Thankfully, in this instance, literally nobody is believing a word of this manipulative and blatantly racist reporting. pic.twitter.com/TKKYkbw2KY

And here they are.
SIDENOTE: The Mail have devoted a significant portion of their racist scapegoating of Chinese people to report on how racist scapegoating is having a negative impact on Chinese people. Isn’t it weird how actions have consequences? pic.twitter.com/oVeJoAQJIC
