When the fire was finally put out and the whiskey river subsided, there was a total of 13 fatalities as a direct result of the event. The cause of all 13 deaths was alcohol poisoning from excessive consumption.’

This one is definitely true – his name was Major Allison Digby Tatham-Warner and he was famed for wearing a bowler hat and carrying an umbrella into battle. You can’t get much more British than that.
