Instagram Makes U-Turn On Selling Grainy Photos Of Pouting Teens, Half Eaten Pizza
Web News: Instagram says it will not sell user’s photos to third parties, derailing plans by ad agencies to use grainy shots of pouting teenage girls and half eaten fast food.
Instagram changed its terms of service this week to suggest that the app, and its owner Facebook, would be allowed to sell people’s photos without permission, but have since back tracked on the decision. Many users reacted angrily to the news, as they hoped it might give their crappy shots a wider audience.
“I think it’s disgusting that Instagram isn’t making my pictures available for use in cheap online advertising,” said one furious user.
“Most of my photos scream ‘ideal picture to accompany generic Viagra advert’ or ‘perfect background for popup window with loan advert’. Instagram are now denying me that exposure. #sadface #instangry #sadstagram”
“Instagram’s u-turn has really hurt our plans for online campaigns next year,” said a spokesman from advertising agency M&C Saatchi.
“We’d based most of our upcoming ads on either self-shots of teenage girls making duck faces, or muddy, over-filtered snaps of the word ‘love’ written in ketchup on a table at McDonald’s. I guess it’s back to the drawing board now.”
