America first! Trump’s luxury golf resort granted visas for 70 foreign workers

In his inaugural address Trump said that under him the country would “follow two simple rules: buy American, and hire American” – so it should come as no surprise that his Mar-a-Lago golf resort has been granted 70 visas to bring in foreign workers for the winter season.

The visas will go to cooks, waiters, housekeepers and maids and is actually a 9% increase from last year, when Mar-a-Lago hired 64 workers, reports the Palm Beach Post.

The Washington Post reports that before being granted permission to hire foreigners, Trump’s two Florida clubs had to show that no one else wanted the jobs. That included calling old employees and putting ads in the newspaper.

In July Mar-a-Lago apparently ran one small advert twice – buried in the Palm Beach Post – that gave no email address, mailing address or phone number and told applicants to “Apply by fax.”

During the debate of Republican presidential candidates in 2016, Trump defended the practice saying that it’s “hard to find” U.S. workers and his company had “no choice.”

It all comes as such a surprise, given Trump’s support of US industry in the past.
