Residents petition to change their road name but not everyone’s taking it seriously

Spare a thought, if you will, for the residents of this road in Worcestershire who are fed up with people taking the piss out of them.

Well, you probably would too if you walked out of your front door only to find a bunch of people doing this all the time.

Not only that, they reckon it’s driving down house prices as well, with homes £60,000 less than the £186,000 being asked for in neighbouring roads.

So they launched a petition on change.org to ask the local council to change it. Here’s what they said.

“As you may be aware, the term “Bell End” can be seen and used as a rude and/or a offensive word. As well as this, it can affect people and children including children being bullied and teased at school and generally now become a laughing stock as seen very recently on Facebook and other social media sites and it’s time for a change. Further to this, it’s one of the rudest road names in England! Feel free to Google and the results will confirm this.

We want the local Sandwell Council to acknowledge our name change request to a new road name and at the very least to a similar name. The local councillors for the local area will be contacted too.

“Bell End” to “Bells Road” ?? .. Even this would be sufficient. What I need is for YOU to support this request!”

Unfortunate things are probably going to get worse before they get better. Especially with this sort of thing popping up.

And comments like this.

Let’s hope the council takes a long, hard look at the request and gives it the seriousness it undoubtedly deserves.
