Someone asked this and the responses took an unexpected turn
A chap called Ethan Lawrence asked people to help him research a map in which he is going to show what different parts of the country call that irritating thing you used to do as a kid (probably).

And while some of the replies were predictable, others enlightening and a few just very funny.
Here’s a bit of background before we start.
Quick background: after years of travelling around the country and meeting all sorts of people I’ve found the thing that truly divides us: what we call the game where you knock on someone’s door and then run away. And I want to make a map.

For reference, I was born and bred in Essex so it’s Knock Down Ginger for me!

“Chappy” here. Halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow. I believe it’s an abbreviation of the fairly on-the-nose “chap door run away”.
