This guy made his own John Lewis ad about love and loss and it’s got people blubbing
The John Lewis Christmas ad has a habit of reducing people to tears except this year’s wasn’t quite like that.
But there’s a chap called Phil Beastall who’s made his own John Lewis-style ad and just like those ads used to, it taps into themes of love and loss, growing up and growing old.
Unlike the John Lewis ads, he doesn’t have anything to sell.
Off the back of the John Lewis Christmas advert I wanted to share my very own Christmas film which I made back in 2014.#christmas #JohnLewisChristmasAd https://t.co/kzxgQFoyOS

It’s gone viral because, well, have a watch for yourself.
Who’s chopping onions?
Love is a gift. This is a beautiful reminder of what is truly important at Christmas – and all year round. ā„ļø https://t.co/CB2bSiQGDr

Now THAT is a Christmas advert. No pandering to a pampered pop star; no emphasis on luxury/elitist, overpriced and unnecessary gifts; no fake 'happy families'. Just pure, raw emotion to tug on the heartstrings.@jlandpartners marketing "experts" should watch and weep.

Iām in pieces, but in a good way. Thank you for bringing Mum & Dad back, even if it was just for a moment. Beautiful.

Phil, I lost my mum 36 years ago (just before Christmas) and the film is such a poignant reminder of that. Thank you,

And this person had a question for Phil.
Hi Phil, was this based on your own experience? Hats off to you for making it either way. It wouldn't look out of place as a John Lewis advert!

Fortunately I still have both my parents but I wanted to create something that resonated with people and made them reflect on what they had around them. Thanks for the kind words š
