Tory maths strikes again as Matt Hancock talks nurse numbers – the only 5 sick burns you need to see
Clearly, the idea of nurses not leaving the NHS being the same as nurses joining the NHS is a hill the Tories are prepared to die on.
We’ve seen both Matt Hancock and Nicky “I’m leaving, oh no I’m not because I’m getting a peerage” Morgan try to gaslight us with their weird maths.
Newly re-elected Matt Hancock appeared on BBC to double down on his theory, and it went exactly as well as the other attempts.

What? These five responses were simply perfect.
1.
Of all the insane bollocks they've spouted "even if we didn't have any new nurses, just by reducing the number who leave, you would end up with more nurses in the NHS" may be the thing that finally broke mepic.twitter.com/Qp2oOlZufZ

is everyone going to take the piss out of Hancock for being unable to do simple maths whenever he's anywhere now, or is that solely reserved for black women? https://t.co/LNB6tlzjgH

I had 50 houseplants yesterday. None died overnight. This means I now have more plants today? 🤯 https://t.co/8TrPNyaNNY

Somebody with a better grasp of maths than the entire government chipped in with this stark fact.
Even IF they got to 50k, for 1257 hospitals in UK, that is 39 per hospital (after 5 years) which in a hospital like my local one with 1k beds would be an extra nurse per 26 beds. No outpatients. No hospices. If they are retained. In 5 years time. Nowhere near good enough.

But if none of the nurses who work there now actually leave, that means it’s double, right?
