Rosie Holt’s relentlessly Tory MP explains that Boris Johnson never lies

There are certain words that tend to be bandied about a lot when people talk about Boris Johnson. Some aren’t suitable to be shared in polite society, but one that is – unfortunately – is ‘liar’.

The PM has been sacked on at least two occasions because he was caught lying, and he has invented some outrageous nonsense about EU laws and policy for his Telegraph column. The Euro-lies include –

Plans to ban prawn cocktail crisps

Restrictive specifications about the curve of bananas

A rule requiring all coffins to be the same size

So, when Tory ministers are sent out to defend their boss from accusations of being responsible for more porkies than an intensive pig farm, it’s a bit of a tough ask.

Peter Bone crashed and burned.

By a weird coincidence, it was Kay Burley who had to try and keep a straight face when Dominic Raab defended the PM’s honesty – sort of.

The only way it could ever end well is if it were being played for laughs, instead of being accidentally hilarious. Like this, from the marvellous Rosie Holt –

‘It’s his truth, which is a prime ministerial truth. It’s a limited and specific truth, erm a manufactured truth, but a truthful manufacturing.’

Of course, people loved it.

Apart from the people who thought it was real.

Rosie shared the evidence.

@HarryMbike might just have a point.

Could she really do a worse job than the current one?
