People have been sharing the 10 minute lessons that can actually make a difference to your life (no, seriously) – 22 super quick fixes
Anybody who has suffered through 14 years of school and come out still not knowing how interest on credit cards works will know that lengthy lessons do not always provide you with the information you really need to know.
Luckily, it turns out that actually we can garner crucially important knowledge and skills very quickly. Over on the AskReddit page, user Ben-Gavin posed this question:
‘What can a person learn in 10 minutes that will be useful for life?’
Lots of people chipped in with handy tips we can all benefit from knowing, like these…
1.
‘Spread your fingers out as far as possible and measure the distance from side of thumb to other side of pinky. Remember that measurement. You can use this to roughly measure things on the go if needed.’

2.
‘The copy and paste keyboard shortcuts. I am still in awe at coworkers who spend all day at their computer but still right click copy and right click paste for everything.
‘And if you’ve got it in you, learning how to move your cursor to the beginning and end of lines with Ctrl & Home/End or arrow keys, and highlighting with Ctrl + shift & arrow keys is extremely useful and will save your sanity when working with poorly designed text field UIs.’

‘Less than 10 minutes even: when you’re having a conversation or argument with somebody, make it so your first thought is a scan of your body sensations, and make your first word a slow breath through your nose.
‘The body scan will allow you to detect any fight/flight physical reaction, and will give you time to calm down. The breath will allow you to calm down further and restore your mind to a more reasonable state. That trick alone completely changed my behaviour during arguments, especially when emotions are involved.’

6.
‘How to properly say “No” without explaining yourself. “No, I can’t” is a full sentence. You don’t owe anyone a 10-minute TED Talk about why.
‘Learning this saved me years of burnout, fake friendships, and doing stuff I hated.’
–InkAndQuietly
7.
‘The “Navy SEAL” Power Nap: Elevate your legs above your heart for 8–20 minutes.
‘Clears the “fog” of sleepiness and prevents you from crashing later. It is a tool for staying awake longer by strategically “resetting” your brain without the heavy cost of a full sleep cycle.
‘Elevating the legs above the level of the heart assists with venous return. Gravity helps blood flow back from the lower extremities to the heart and brain. This can reduce swelling in the legs and lower your heart rate, signalling the nervous system to shift from “Fight or Flight” (Sympathetic) to “Rest and Digest” (Parasympathetic) mode rapidly.’
