This simple looking sum went viral and has got people very hot under the collar
This simple looking arithmetic is not as easy as it looks. Or maybe it is. Having read most of the comments it prompted, we’re not sure we know anything anymore.
idk what stresses me out more, the fact that 26% somehow got 13 or the fact that the correct answer isnt even an option pic.twitter.com/r6o0TW7ZZn

Okay so the fury about the people who ended up with 13, we can all agree on that. But 16 not the right answer? Are you sure about that?
What better way to find the answer than ask Twitter? Right? Er, maybe. Here’s what people made of it.

It’s a sign of the debate it started that the tweet has been retweeted 150,000 and liked more than 300,000. That’s, like, twice as many likes as retweets. Is that right? Anyway, back to the original question.

order of operations is fake anyway, it only exists because computers have to have an exact order to do things in

Only if by “computers” you mean people who compute things. Standardized notation is arbitrary but practical. The order is what it is so we can do stuff with polynomials unambiguously without having to write a million )(. Polynomials are super useful.

It’s about here our eyes started to sweat.

At least 2×2 is 4 and 4×4 is 16 so that is excusable a little IMO.
But odd numbers?! Almost 1/3 of ppl?!?! JFC.
