Jacob Rees-Mogg tweeted in Latin and these 18 takedowns were simply splendidus
Leading Brexiter, Jacob Rees-Mogg, is not known for having the common touch. Indeed, he is often referred to as “the Honorable Member for the 17th century”, which tells you all you need to know about his attitudes. If the 17th century seems a long time ago, we have to wonder which century he was living in when he made this comment last year – the 4th, perhaps.
Tempora mutantur, et nos mutamur in illis.
— Jacob Rees-Mogg (@Jacob_Rees_Mogg) July 15, 2017
This smattering of unnecessary Latin translates as “Times are changed; we, too, are changed within them.” or, to paraphrase, “You lost; get over it.”
Both at the time of tweeting and since then, the comment has triggered a wealth of reactions, mostly in a strong spirit of mockery. These 19 are particularly enjoyable.

No sense of irony or self-awareness to state "the times change, so we change with them"…… In Latin. https://t.co/Ip6Z7Ltda9

Times change and we change with them writes the man who wanted to stop any reform of the HoL, & who regularly refers to Peel and the Corn Laws.
