UK army apologises after “blackface” tweet

So the British Army tweeted this earlier:

The juxtaposition of the soldier with black on his face and the words “being a soldier in the jungle requires a sense of humour.” looked, well, bad.

Twitter users were quick to complain:

• “Nice of the British Army to give me a quick reminder some people don’t understand how blackface is offensive. Just before Halloween too.” – @Ankaman616
• “What is the joke that the British Army account was going for? That blackface is funny? Is that seriously it?” – @jmsclee

With the backlash growing @BritishArmy deleted the tweet:
