‘Parmesan Martini’ not Brexit to blame for Jamie Oliver restaurant closures

Sympathy for Jamie Oliver appears to be in short supply on Twitter after the celebrity chef blamed Brexit for the closure of six of his restaurants.

This is the same Jamie Oliver who four years ago expressed his admiration for Ukip and its then leader, Nigel Farage.

“What I love is that Ukip are stirring it up,” Oliver said, a quote that is now beginning to repeat on him like an aubergine parmigiana with crispy breadcrumbs.

Parmesan in a Martini? We were unable to track down this particular recipe until @MittenDAmour found it for us.

Oliver’s company blamed “a tough market and post-Brexit the pressures and unknowns have made it even harder” for the decision to shut half a dozen branches of Jamie’s Italian.

The new issue of the chef’s Jamie magazine promises “feel good food for the year ahead”. Perhaps he should tuck in.
