Did you know the Wizbit theme tune was based on a song by blues legend Lead Belly?

People of a certain age have the kids TV theme tune Wizbit  as an almost permanent ear worm – here it is if you need reminding.

“Wizbit is a 1980s BBC children’s television show about an alien magician, Wizbit. It starred conjuror Paul Daniels and wife Debbie McGee.” writes Wikipedia.

But did you know the theme tune was based upon a song by Lead Belly of all people?

Yes, blues legend, Lead Belly?

“Just found out that the Wizbit theme is based on a Leadbelly song. Well bloody hell fire.” writes @Mofgimmers over on Twitter.

Yes. Just listen.

Mind. Blown.

There’s some more information on Wikipedia:

The show was created by Barry Murray, who had formerly been Mungo Jerry’s record producer, with assistance from Daniels. Its theme tune is based on a song by Lead Belly, named “Ha-Ha This A Way”, sung by Daniels.

And we apologise for the ear worm. Altogether now, “ha ha this-away, ha ha that-away, ha ha this-away, my-oh-my.”
