Daily Telegraph wrongly announces Prince Philip’s death

We know it’s a big day for Prince Philip because he’s performing his final solo public engagement after completing 22,219 of the things since 1952.

But it’s not THIS big.

The Daily Telegraph inadvertently announced the Duke’s death before swiftly taking it down and sending whoever was responsible to the Tower of London.

The piece read:

“The Duke of Edinburgh, the longest-serving consort to a monarch in British history, has died at the age of XX, Buckingham Palace has announced.

“Prince Philip, whom the Queen described as her ‘strength and stay’ during her record-breaking reign, passed away XXXXXXX

“He will be given a royal ceremonial funeral in line with his wishes, which is expected to take place in seven days’ time.”
