Peter Capaldi’s letter to a 9-year-old fan sad he was leaving is about more than Doctor Who
A 9-year-old fan of Doctor Who wrote a letter to Peter Capaldi sad he was leaving the Tardis for the last time.
And guess what – Capaldi wrote back. We’ve got a hunch the (former) Doctor’s letter went viral because it feels like he’s speaking about a whole lot more than Doctor Who. See what you think.
#PeterCapaldi is my 9 year old son’s fav #DoctorWho and he was dreading his regeneration. And then he got this letter with some words of comfort from the Doctor himself among his Santa presents. Such a kind man. pic.twitter.com/Dki37Wt6Er

And here it is in close-up.
Maybe we’re just feeling over emotional because we’ve had too many eggnogs, but it feels like he’s talking about the sort of loss that isn’t just associated with a teatime kids’ TV show.
Turns out it’s not the first time Capaldi’s done this sort of thing.

When he was cast 4 the part, my kids wanted to send him a good luck letter. I wrote too & mentioned that 23/11/13 was my birthday as well as him having inspired me as an artist . Anyway, when the day came I received this birthday card. Absolutely floored me. My doctor ❤️ pic.twitter.com/5lKUHaywV9

Love this! My daughter wrote for his autograph at age 10. She told him of her love for dinosaurs & his 1st episode. He drew a dinosaur! We met him in Oct at NY Comic Con. He explained how lucky she was. He scoops up as many requests as he can from the pile. Not all get answered. pic.twitter.com/5dJY8YGDJ9

When I met Peter Capaldi, I told him how much me & my boyf loved Malcolm Tucker & asked him to sign my Thick of It script book. Look what he wrote. #PeterCapaldi #Legend pic.twitter.com/nettqEybn9

It’s an undeniably lovely gesture but I did have to give the handwriting on this sentence a second glance. Momentarily thought he’d slipped back into Malcolm Tucker. pic.twitter.com/ePKpafJcRj

For some reason this whole thread is tearing me up. My son met David Tennant at a Con and he was so gracious and kind. It just goes to show you that those who play the #doctor are simply the best. pic.twitter.com/iXQMaNtjWr

Seriously cool. I’m not very well versed in all things Doctor, but why’s the letter dated 1963?
