This gingerbread model of the hotel from The Shining gives a new meaning to “Christmas spirit”

Pretty much every gingerbread house looks basically the same, with a cutesy cottage-like building, decorated with icing, jelly sweets and Smarties – other hard-shelled chocolate sweets are available. One family, however, have taken the concept to a whole new level, with this gingerbread Overlook Hotel – the terrifyingly un-Christmasy setting of The Shining.

Aaron Keeling and his family haven’s simply made a great gingerbread Overlook, they’ve added some scary details.

The hellish window effects have been achieved with melted Jolly Ranchers.

A peek through some of the windows reveals scenes from the film.

One window looks onto the corridor with the creepy murdered Grady sisters.

The wallpaper is edible – not that we’ve got much of an appetite.

Jack and Wendy’s iconic bathroom scene makes an appearance.

The most horrific room in the hotel gets a starring role.

The pictures and carpets are as faithfully reproduced as possible on miniature edible paper.

We see Jack getting an eyeful in the bathroom.

He’s rightfully terrified – after all, he’s going to be eaten.

This is what he’s really afraid of.

Icing has never been so grotesque.
