Piers Morgan used a very old tree to troll ‘Remoaners’ and he was so owned it almost hurts
Piers Morgan is fond of telling people sceptical about the benefits of Brexit that, really, there is nothing to fear from leaving the EU.
On this occasion he used a very old tree in Italy to offer a ‘little perspective’ to what he called ‘hysterical Remoaners’.
This olive tree in Puglia, my driver just informed me, is over 1400yrs old. So it’s survived over 1350yrs longer than the European Union has existed. I hope this offers the more hysterical Remoaners a little perspective… pic.twitter.com/qkTtXIzaVv

Now there were plenty of people happy to take issue with the Good Morning Britain man, of whom these are just a few.
Humans survived 200k years without antibiotics as well.

“If trees can survive for thousands of years we can survive Brexit”. When did these idiots start using arguments that are only reassuring if you’re foliage. pic.twitter.com/rURpmeCo0Y

riiiighht… but if you dug it up, cut off most of its roots and put it in a bucket not quite big enough to support its own weight it would really f*kin struggle.. Im really glad you're not allowed to drive though. 👍

You, an idiot
“Quite worried about customs checks disrupting the food supply”Me, smart
“Look at that bush! Fucking remoaners, that bush means we’ll be fine!” pic.twitter.com/w9PvVAE81U— James Felton (@JimMFelton) January 5, 2019
But no-one did it quite so well as this chap.
Tragically for Piers I read that the EU intervened with €7 million of funding to save these very trees in 2015 after the Italian government failed to act to save them from a mystery bacteria https://t.co/k4wwibPFmB

They did, they really did.

The olive trees in Puglia are being decimated by Xylella, the EU is putting 7million euros into research and EFSA are bringing together leading experts to help beat it – this is the collaboration that we are losing with Brexit hopefully @Scientists4EU @Femi_Sorry will agree?
