David Baddiel can’t watch horror films anymore and it turns out he’s not alone
Here’s David Baddiel sharing why he can’t watch horror films anymore.
As I've got older, I can't watch horror films anymore. Particularly not ones with jump scares. Anyone else find this? Is it because in your own life, you can feel the dread, and the creepy music, and the echoey footsteps, as the big jump scare of death approaches?

Which wasn’t all he had to say on the matter.
I say this because I have Hereditary ready to watch. And am hesitant.

Watched You Were Never Really Here instead. Which wasn’t exactly a barrel of fun either.

However: I do like films – are they horror? – that don't make you jump (at least not all the way through), but rather feel a more complex fear. By which I mean disturbing, clever films like The Others, Let The Right One In, and supremely, Don't Look Now.

And it turns out he’s not alone because it got a whole bunch of responses, of which these are our favourites.

I have this. I used to watch and enjoy proper horror movies but now I get jittery when a chocolate fondant is overcooked on Masterchef.

The older we get the more real horror we have seen. I just want Marvel & romcoms now.

That and the fact that it might actually kill you.

When I was a teenage horror film lover, my Mum used to say “I can’t bear horror films. Life is already full of horror as it is.” I Thought she was a right square twat. Now I’m 43 and it turns out she was right.

I found I couldn't watch jump scare horrors after my parents passed away, and worse since I've become a parent, its gotten worse. Scary psychos aren't nearly as scary a seeing my father in a coffin or thoughts of my daughter getting sick!

Since I've had kids. Having kids has made me want to avoid negativity, and made me panicky about my own mortality.
