Mothers Ruined have some hilarious last-minute ideas for World Book Day
Today is World Book Day, that day dreaded by parents everywhere, as they have to find something from a book that they can dress their child as, without breaking the bank or needing a degree in Theatrical Costume Design.
If you’re a parent who’s only just realised it’s that day, firstly, why didn’t you look in their book bags for the letters a month ago, and secondly, would you like some very quick and easy costume ideas? Of course you would.
The ingenious suggestions from comedy sketch group, Mothers Ruined, which is Jayne Sharp and Amanda Wilkie (@Pandamoanimum) – with help from the super-talented Piper – have had plenty of love in the short time the clip has been on social media.

That is brilliant. I would be well impressed if any of my class came like that. Home-made costumes are always the best. I especially love Pinocchio and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Did you…did you just stick a sanitary towel to her face!? 😂

@Pandamoanimum also had a low-effort suggestion for teachers.
Buy some of this. Spend all day throwing it in the air and then not catching it.

Easy – until they have to clean it up.
