James Corden pranked David Beckham with a fake statue and his reaction was priceless
A tribute statue is a wonderful thing; it shows that you’ve really achieved something within your field and will go down in history as one of the greats. However, not every statue lives up to the expectations – like this one of Cristiano Ronaldo, for example.
Or this one of the late, great Victoria Wood.
So, when LA Galaxy decided to honour David Beckham with a statue of himself to be installed at the ground, he must have had mixed feelings – of pride and a little trepidation. He met with the sculptor, Omri Amrany, in the early stages and asked for a couple of changes, namely a little bit off the chin and a smidge off the arse – if only cosmetic surgery were that easy.
What he didn’t realise was that his good mate, James Corden, had spotted an opportunity to prank the former Manchester United and England star by bringing on a sub – a big-chinned, massive-arsed copy of the actual statue. The clip of the world-class gag is nearly ten minutes long, but totally worth it.
Here’s a closer look at the statue of Ron Perlman Jimmy Hill David Beckham.
And here’s the man himself, as he sees the monstrosity for the first time.
We absolutely love his restrained comment to the comedian posing as the sculptor,
“It’s slightly different to what it was when I saw it in Chicago.”
As well as the sheer relief when he realised it was just a prank.
In case you were wondering, he liked the real one.
