This MEP’s Brexit speech went viral because it’s so sad and because he nails it so well
British MEP Richard Ashworth’s speech to the European Parliament about the causes of Brexit and the lessons the rest of Europe had to learn from it went viral because he nails it so well.
The EU was never properly explained to the Brtish public; just used as a scapegoat for anything and everything by the UK Govt and the tabloids. This is Conservative MEP @RichardAshMEP speaking in Strasbourg today. pic.twitter.com/g8PssH6JMQ

Ashworth is a former Tory MEP who now stands as an independent after he was expelled by Theresa May for warning against the perils of Brexit. And here are just a few of the comments it generated.
Of course this great speech by a British MEP will never – unlike Farrage's farragoes of nonsense – get big coverage in the UK, where the BBC follows the tabloid agenda and our navel-gazing-power and insularity has brought us to the catastrophe of #Brexit https://t.co/nUz6YMZtX0

Conservative MEP Richard Ashworth @RichardAshMEP speaking in Strasbourg today. How very few UK MPs could match this statesmanlike address. https://t.co/7FtQqnoToi

Must watch. A British MEP says goodbye: Never take peace for granted, never take prosperity for granted, never take Europe for granted. It is worth fighting for. https://t.co/uJAZNM5TjX
