The BBC’s Nicholas Witchell running out of words to say about the royal baby spoke for the entire nation
The BBC’s Nicholas Witchell has gone viral for the most unfortunate of reasons after he froze on live TV reporting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal birth.
At least the veteran royal correspondent can console himself in that having nothing new to say about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby, he surely spoke for the entire nation.
Poor Nicholas Witchell. Did the terminal inanity of Royal correspondence finally overwhelm him? pic.twitter.com/XKx1VveMjR

There was no shortage of support for Witchell among his broadcasting peers.
I’ve seen some snide comments about Nick Witchell. Please stop, they’re not deserved. He’s a respected and experienced broadcaster, doing his job. I don’t know what happened tonight but it’s certainly no reason to be nasty.

Seconded. And live broadcasting is always like walking a tightrope- we all stumble from time to time https://t.co/rRRpnYyPTu

Morning all,
For those who think they can do a better job than the supreme professional #nickwitchell, I’d like to see you try.
Doctors bury their mistakes, lawyers jail theirs and TV journalists broadcast theirs. Get off his case and get on with your day.
Have a great week

And there was this from the programme editor.
For those asking about Nick Witchell – he’s absolutely fine. Highly unusually for Nick he lost his train of thought on the #BBCNewsTen and decided to hand back to the studio. This can happen sometimes even to the most experienced and respected in busy live news broadcasting.

To conclude ….
Solidarity with Nick Witchell, not only for fluffing lines on air ( who hasn't) but for running out of interesting things to say about #royalbaby when all we know about him is he's 1. royal 2. a baby
