This time-lapse of an A.I. “forgetting” a face could give you nightmares
Artificial Intelligence is playing an increasing role in the world, with A.I. capable of driving cars, diagnosing medical problems and writing pick-up lines, presumably “Nice motherboard.”
For an art project, a programmer created a computer-generated face, then set an algorithm to gradually deactivate an A.I.’s neurons, effectively clearing its “brain” of the image.
The resultant time-lapse video of the displayed face is very disturbing indeed.
The piece, entitled “I Will Not Forget”, is accompanied by this text:
“Memories disappear unwitnessed.
Images gradually fade away
Until one day there is nothing left
But a vague feeling of loss…Memories are stored in neurons and connection among them.
The world is perceived through networks of neurons
and connections among them.Is there a world
except for the one in the neurons? What happens to the world
When I lose neural cells? She is an image created by
An artificial mind.
Then
One by one
neurons in the mind
are being turned off…She stays the same.
The world outside stays the same.”
Don’t have nightmares.
