This D-Day veteran’s opinion of the EU isn’t what the Brexiters would have us believe
The 6th of June is the anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944, or D-Day, which began the process of liberating France from German occupation and led to an end to WWII. On this 75th anniversary, the annual commemorations have been attended by heads of State and dignitaries from all of the countries involved, including Germany – now a close partner to France and the UK.
One veteran of the operation, Eric Chardin, was asked about the progress made in protecting peace in Europe.

It’s a very different attitude to this one, from Brexiter Mark Francois.
"My father was a D-Day veteran, he never submitted to bullying by any German. Neither will his son"

Writer James Felton made this broader comparison.
For all the brexiteers talking about how we “survived the war so we’ll survive Brexit” like they were personally dodging bullets on the beach of Normandy as a sperm, here’s what someone who actually lived through the war thinks of your ridiculous project.pic.twitter.com/XM6WUMjxWI
