7 glorious takedowns of a Brexiter MEP’s complaints about the European Parliament
Martin Daubney was previously the editor of ‘lad magazine’, Loaded, which had a culture of sexism and arrogance that must have prepared him well for joining the Brexit Party, for which he is now an MEP. At the opening of the European Parliament, he used his years of journalistic experience to report on the occasion like this:
You can not grasp the sheer excess of this until you sit here. It’s like something out of Star Wars: an interplanetary nightmare, all paid for by taxpayers #ChangePoliticsForGood @brexitparty_uk pic.twitter.com/C36UHTcnTj

If the Brexit Party carries on the proud traditions of its predecessor, UKIP, it’s unlikely that Dabney will have to out up with the sight very often, as he’s unlikely to turn up. People soon picked up on his accusations of Star Wars-like excess.

There are currently 800 sitting Lords and 651 MPs at Westminster. Compared to the 751 MEPs for all 28 nations at EU parliament – one of those institutions is clearly more streamlined than the other. https://t.co/Ax59bOtFF0

Even the Star Wars analogy didn’t stand up to scrutiny.
The Galactic Republic, along with the Jedi, helped ensure peace and prosperity for a thousand generations prior to a populist senator from Naboo turning it into the tyrannical Empire.
