Gary Lineker joked that he needed a pay rise – 5 favourite replies by people who didn’t get it
Gary Lineker earns a lot of money presenting Match of the Day and since the government required the BBC to publish its stars’ salaries, we all know how much.
It was presumably with this in mind that the presenter said this when the BBC1 programme tweeted that it was his 20th year fronting the programme.

And there were lots of people – lots – who didn’t appreciate (or just get) the joke. Here. are our 5 favourites.

Wow. Pensioners are threatened with criminal action because they cant afford to pay for a TV licence in order to pay your f**king wages and now you feel its appropriate to make a joke about increasing your wage. What a horrible chauvinistic moron.

Hi Gary, I ❤️ MOTD, I ❤️ your presentation of it and I usually ❤️your tweets, but when the elderly are losing their free TV licence and some very good female broadcasters (like Fiona Bruce) are earning only a quarter of your salary, perhaps this one isn’t the most sensitive.

You go get that pay rise Gary, then donate it to everyone who has lost their free TV licenses because they have to pay to give you that pay rise in the first place.
