This plea for help from a woman whose in-laws won’t take her allergy seriously will take your breath away
Here’s writer Heather Havrilesky who, among many other things, answers readers’ questions for the Ask Polly column in New York magazine’s The Cut.
This is the most unhinged Ask Polly letter I've ever received, hands down. https://t.co/IMcgxMcWDJ

But exactly how unhinged is ‘unhinged’? It turns out the answer is very, very unhinged indeed.
You can read the whole letter – and the advice it prompted – here.
But before you do that, here are just a few of the responses it prompted on Twitter which we think say it all.
Seems like they resent her for the love her husband feels for her and are experiencing his relationship to her as a loss of control, which they are trying to reassert in this way. They should never go over again.

Yeah, they’re trying to kill her. Mushrooms are easy to avoid & they’re going out of their way to put them in things. I don’t know why (& really, who cares why?) but they’re trying to kill her.

I can tell you right now those crazy in-laws are “testing” her allergy because they don’t think it’s real or serious. I have a family member who tries to sneak coconut into stuff so she can GOTCHA another relative with a moderate allergy. It’s absolutely insane.

I would speculate that these people think *they’re doing her a favor.* “Oh, it’s all in her head — food allergies aren’t REAL — and once she tries some she’ll finally be over her silly hang-up.”
Invincible ignorance.

Yeah, there’s no salvaging that relationship.
Mushroom powder in the mashed potatoes. Jesus Christ.

Yeah like the problem is your husband’s family is actually trying to murder your and your husband never had occasion to realize how bad they are until now. Let this off your conscience and move on and say a little prayer they choke on mushrooms.

Last word to this person.
I would set 30-50 feral pigs in their yard in 3-5 minutes flat.
