Boris Johnson sacks ‘snake’ Gove as an hour becomes a long time in politics – 23+ reactions

At the time of writing, 46 Tory MPs have resigned their parliamentary positions, giving Boris Johnson the dubious honour of beating the previous record by 35 resignations.

Wednesday can’t have been good for his blood-pressure, with Prime Minister’s Questions and a grilling by the Liaison Committee, both serving to demonstrate that he has no shame intention of stepping down.

With a steady stream of Dear John(son) letters and very few of his colleagues declaring their support, one MP was notable for his silence – and his absence from PMQs.

It emerged that, despite not resigning his position as Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove had played an unexpected hand.

Despite rumours that the PM was struggling to find people prepared to fill the growing list of vacancies, he phoned Gove to strip him of his position.

An extraordinary comment added insult to injury.

People were quick to react to the self-inflicted gunshot wound to Johnson’s foot.
