Elon Musk is rebranding Twitter as X – 31 favourite tweets (or whatever they’re called now)

Elon Musk must have been bored at the weekend, because he stirred up the social media site that cost him $44 billion – and has rapidly depreciated – by announcing a rebrand.

Musk’s company X Corp owns Twitter – the web address x.com now redirects to the site, so it would seem that he’s serious about binning one of the world’s most recognisable brands in favour of a name that’s shared by at least one radio station, a golf clothing company and a Google-founded research and development facility in California.

He’s keen for the change to happen quickly.

It’s a name already associated with Musk, being part of his space travel company, SpaceX, a Tesla model, and his son with Grimes, X Æ A-12.

The CEO of X Corp, Linda Yaccarino, says that X will be run by AI, which is presumably what has been doing the thinking for Musk – who seems to have embraced the A, but falls short on the I.

At the time of writing, the bird logo remains and sharing is still called retweeting – so this, for now, is what tweeters thought of it.
