‘Escargot. People say it tastes like buttery garlic, and I believe them.
I still have no desire to eat snails.’

‘A friend group. I’ve had them throughout the years, and I realize that I am a person who cares very deeply, and most people do not. I am no longer going to pour into other cups if they aren’t helping to refill mine.’

‘Dating around.

I was with the same man from age 16 to age 24, and we got engaged while I was in college. People were like “you don’t want to play the field? You don’t want to see what other people are like? You don’t want to experiment or explore?” I didn’t at all. Our relationship was wonderful and fulfilling for many years, and I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything–based on my friends’ experiences, dating as a teen and college student seemed like a total clusterfuck and I wasn’t remotely jealous of what they had to deal with.

He had an affair unfortunately (before the wedding, thankfully) so I was thrust into the dating pool in my mid-20s and I can absolutely confirm–I missed absolutely nothing pleasurable or of value. Thankfully this was before dating apps dominated the dating scene but it still was hectic and emotionally draining and really not fun at all. I was lucky enough to meet my current partner through a gaming group and we’ve been together 10 years.

If you’re lucky enough to find a healthy, fulfilling long-term relationship at a young age, don’t let anyone tell you you’re “missing out” by not having the opportunity to date around before settling down. Probably wait to get married though :)’

‘Concerts. There is not a single person that I want to see bad enough to pay all that money and fight those crowds for.’

‘Burning Man. Don’t care how it changed your life, hippie, it doesn’t appeal in the slightest.’

‘Getting drunk. It’s literally a waste of time, brain cells and money.’

‘Going to Disney World. 7 years living in South Florida and I’ve never been there and have no desire to change that anytime soon.’

‘Having children. Knew I didn’t want kids when I was in my late teens, and now in my 40s, I have absolutely zero regret.

As someone who loves peace and silence, the freedom to live each day on my whims and having no obligations, kids are totally incompatible with my lifestyle. Unlike the majority of humans, I don’t find children cute at all. They have totally no appeal to me.’
