10 entirely relatable things that British people always do when they go abroad on holiday (and don’t try to pretend you don’t)
6. Getting sunburnt.
People are generally a lot more aware of the importance of using an SPF nowadays. However, there’s still always a certain percentage who don’t bother with suncream or just can’t be arsed to reapply it frequently, even though this is the first time their milk bottle coloured skin has seen the sun for many, many months. They’re not usually hard to identify.
7. Getting a tan.
Different from the sunburnt mob. These Brits spend as much of their holiday as physically possible, trying to get the perfect tan. They prep their bodies and use special creams to enhance and savour their new skin colour. Lying at odd and uncomfortable looking angles on their sun loungers to ensure every piece of flesh is kissed by the sun, and rotating themselves like supermarket rotisserie chickens to ensure their tan is even. Just to get back home and have to cover most of it up as the weather is too bloody horrible to have much skin showing.
8. Walking round in public with hardly any clothes on.
Back home they’d never been seen dead in Greggs or Big Tesco anything less than suitable attired but, when on holiday, they’ll happily wander for something to eat or to the shops wearing just their swimwear and a pair of flip flops.
9. Refusing to try the local food.
Despite being a visitor in another country that has multiple delicious local dishes on offer, they point blank refuse to give them a go. They much prefer to find somewhere called ‘Ye Olde Bulldog and Wanker’ that offers ‘Heinz Tomato Ketchup’, ‘Kellog’s Cornflakes’, and ‘Traditional Sunday roasts’ and eat there 3 times a day for the entire duration of their holiday.
10. Moaning about the heat.
Pretty much the whole reason for booking this holiday was for the heat. However, as Brits love to moan about the weather, a lot of the holiday will then be spent complaining about just how hot it actually is. They will, of course though, be constantly checking the weather back home and revelling in the fact that it’s not hot there.
