Congratulations if you survived any of these 17 questionable parenting habits without a bit of emotional damage

Tough love because otherwise you’re coddling them. I’m a therapist and the lifelong impact of a parent who was not empathic in all those little moments is tremendous.

Most custodians and janitors like their jobs/have an important role in society. Stop viewing certain jobs as failures

Not sure that it’s a “rule” per se, but parents who throw their children in front of an iPad while out are not only being lazy parents, but also emotionally damaging their children.
Of course kids want to watch their iPad constantly. They are children, they don’t know how to regulate themselves. But what they really want is human connection, especially with their family. When you have a bad relationship with your child in 20 years, think about how you plopped them in front of an iPad to sedate them rather than calming and entertaining them yourself.

Punishing kids for accidents, like spilling a drink on the carpet. I can’t stand parents who get mean to their kids over stuff like that.
