‘Oven cleaning – I used to work as one for 18 months before setting up another business, but we used to clear a grand a day some days, taking home around £5,000-£6,000 a week.
‘We had so much cash when I used to get home I’d throw it onto my bed, and most days I was wading through it to find my clothes for the next day it was insane. I make slightly less now but I love my job and it’s not cleaning gunk out of disgusting ovens and burning myself using sodium hydroxide all day long. I know of at least two oven cleaners who are millionaires now.’

‘Just in general the life sciences industry. Especially if you have a relatively low profile education. You’re often surrounded by medical doctors and PhDs and loads of very bright people.
‘It kinda raises the average salaries a little bit, so if you get in and make a tactical switch or two, you’ll be making £60-70k with about 4-5 years experience.’

‘I regularly see day rates of £1,000 – £1,500 for commercial due diligence. Essentially checking the financials of companies before they are purchased by someone else. It’s skilled work, but it’s a rinse and repeat formula once you know how to do it.’

‘My mate dropped out of 6th form and did a welding apprenticeship. Now he makes bespoke iron gates for rich people’s houses. He does it all out of a fabrication shop and a van in the middle of nowhere. Gets clients from all over the place.
‘Works 9 months a year, spends the other 3 months travelling. Doesn’t brag about cash, but never appears to worry about it and has his own house, car, van etc sorted. Always pays in £20 notes. He seems to be doing well and we’re proud of him.’

‘Aquaculture wellboats. Niche as fuck but even a deckhand with almost no experience (literally only needs a week long course) can start on 40k. The chief mates and masters earn closer to the 100k mark.’

‘Unskilled factory workers doing manual handling. I take £60k with no qualifications. Just work shifts and pick heavy shit up and put it down again. Can’t complain. Did overtime and took £5k after tax last month.’

‘My mate is a park ranger for the council and he’s got to his final band threshold at about 33k which, in the grand scheme of things, is actually ridiculous money for someone who walks around parks for a living.’

‘Supermarket refrigeration engineers. I made 60K in my fourth year after a three year apprenticeship. Lots of overtime and 24 hour standby but good money.’

‘I had a school friend that went into waste management. Clearing blocked waste pipes and underground sewerage. It was perfect for him as he was born with no sense of smell. At 18/9 he was already making 40k before overtime/on call for emergencies. Lots of money in crap work as he used to say! I’d also say any trade (sparky/plumbers/gas) can print their own money once they are time served.’
