‘What was the first thing you learned immediately after getting married?’ – 17 lessons people realised after tying the knot

10.
‘Nothing. Absolutely nothing changed. Wife and I had lived together for three years and had been dating for five. We had a two year engagement because there was a specific time of year and location we wanted that wasn’t available the year after we got engaged.

‘If you’re committed to each other, love each other, and want to spend the rest of your life together, a piece of paper and party doesn’t change that.

‘All that being said, the money we got back from taxes the first full year of marriage was fire.’

‘That we should’ve taken a big vacation together before we got married. Our honeymoon was our first big trip together and we definitely had differing expectations. I want to go and do everything; husband wants to stay in and relax.

‘It’s not a deal breaker for us. We’ve learned to adapt how we enjoy our vacations so we’re both happy. But the honeymoon would’ve been more fun if we’d figured that out beforehand.’

‘There’s too much paperwork to change your name. (12+ years in, and I still have my maiden name.)’

‘You are absolutely going to go to bed angry at each other’

‘There are special towels that can never be used but must always be displayed, just in case someone more important than me drops by.’

‘That people genuinely get excited when they see a couple in wedding clothes in Vegas lol. So many drunk girls were yelling “DID YOU JUST GOT MARRIED?!!” and would be so happy for us when we confirmed. It was a super fun experience!’

‘I learned that he just wasn’t that into me. He assumed I was fine and doing my thing, and he would fill his time doing his thing, but I was always waiting to do things together.’

‘My wife and I lived together for most of our relationship before getting married (~6 years) so not much. We fully knew what we we’re getting ourselves into and we’ve had a wonderful life together as a married couple. One thing we did learn is how many people will get upset with you if you decide to elope instead of throwing a big party with free food and drinks.’
