‘Haha, mine went through a phase of asking to like, comment and subscribe anytime someone took a video of them.’

‘Actually had a conversation in the pub not long ago where one of the blokes was giving who whole ‘our culture is being replaced by Islam bla bla bla’ and I said our culture is actually being replaced by US culture and he just couldn’t get it.
It 100% is and nobody seems to get it. Kids are using more American words, we’re doing things like Black Friday, fast food is taking over and American style politics are coming in thick and fast. See y’all on the other side!’

‘I teach physics and maths at a University. Several students now say ‘math’ instead of ‘maths’.’

‘I don’t have kids but even growing up in the 90s with Disney channel and Nickelodeon I was always using American words, my dad used to get so angry. Now I do it intentionally to wind him up. Would you like cilantro on your quesadillas, dear father?’

‘Caught my just-turned-two year old on camera singing the alphabet song the other day, which was great… until he got to the end and pronounced ‘z’ as ‘zee’. Facepalm. Turned out he’s learned it largely from watching Miss Rachel, which is age-appropriate and whose ‘phonics songs’ I like, but she speaks American. I have switched him to Yakka Dee on the beeb.’

‘Not very but she did once go purple with rage because I called Motor from Rubble and Crew ‘Motor’ and not ‘Moder’.’

‘The silver lining of the Peppa Pig phase means my three year old daughter isn’t getting too many Americanisms, more Aussie ones from Bluey if anything. She told my wife (her mum) she looked fabulous today!’

‘I’ll give the Yanks one thing: I actually prefer ‘soda’ as a term. There’s just something about the word, ‘pop’ that has always made my blood curdle. Don’t ask me why because I haven’t a bloody clue.
What’s the alternative, though? Please can I have a bottle/can/glass of fizz or fizzy drink? Nah. Soda is much more succinct. Now, please excuse me, I’ve had a funny turn at the thought of agreeing with Americans. I feel rather peculiar.’
