Politics nigel farage Victoria Derbyshire
Reform UK ignored Victoria Derbyshire’s invitation to discuss Nigel Farage’s undeclared £5 million gift from a billionaire, and we’re shocked – shocked, we tell you!
The media has paid less attention to a crypto billionaire secretly giving Nigel Farage £5 million just before he changed his mind about standing for parliament than it did to Keir Starmer having three pairs of glasses paid for by a Labour peer.
On Tuesday, Farage repeated his insistence that the money was for his personal use, and was therefore exempt from the requirement to declare all gifts and donations from the 12 months prior to election.
Farage insists the £5m gift he received from a Thai crypto billionaire was legal, saying: “There is no obligation to declare something that is a non-political, personal gift, and it will ensure I can be safe for the rest of my life.” pic.twitter.com/qrhSthLQE1

Despite his best efforts, which include bawk-bawk-bawking out of an interview with Laura Kuenssberg, the story isn’t going away as smoothly as the questions around who really bought the house in Clacton.
Newsnight’s Victoria Derbyshire explained the issues, and why the timeline of the donation should give people pause for thought.

"As you'd expect we asked Reform UK for an interview tonight. One Reform UK press officer asked: with who and to discuss what"

Not a single person was suprised by Reform’s radio silence, but it made a refreshing change to have seen a mainstream journalist give it some proper scrutiny.

So a very wealthy individual gave a man a completely unconditional £5m but rather than instantaneously retiring & jetting off to the Bahamas to enjoy it, he decided to take on a full-time job at the age of 60??#newsnight

The self-serving Farage. Political scandals don't come any bigger than this one. https://t.co/yFUFu8i5u6

1. It couldnt be more obvious that Harborne paid for Farage to become an MP, and potentially PM, to promote his cryptocurrency interests.
2. This does not show that Farage is “just as bad as the others”. It shows he is far, far worse. No other party leader is owned like this. https://t.co/E9zzpt7K9t
